 "O.K. in a pinch" 2010-02-03

This is nice in that it is small and has many features. However, the AM reception indoors is nonexistent, and the indoor FM reception is just adequate, even with the antenna fully extended. I live in a large metropolitan area and there are many powerful AM stations, and I can tune none inside. Three or four of the most powerful FM stations come in adequately. I would not recommend it for indoor use during a storm or power outage. I think I'll keep mine in the car and order the CC emergency radio for use indoors.

"Awesome, Powerful, Quality Emergency Radio" 2010-01-29
By Darth Monkey (Ocoee, Fl United States)
Just received this today from Amazon. This is a sweet little radio and the quality is great. I like the rubbery texture too it so it feels good when holding it and it won't slip out of your hands. I had great reception on the radio even after only cranking it for a minute or so. All stations in my area I got perfectly fine in AM and FM, Orlando, FL. The light worked great too, just enough to do whatever you need to do. Also the main reason I got this was to be able to charge my iPhone in an emergency, I plugged the iPhone cable into the USB slot, started cranking and viola the iPhone charged just fine. You have to continuously crank to charge it, which is fine, it's for an emergency and you should only need a minute or two for making a call. But it worked and that's all I wanted. I'll be carrying it around to try out different areas of the city too. Haven't tried the solar charger yet, but I will soon. BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

it takes a lot of cranking to get a few minutes of the radio to play.

I bought this in case of a disaster. Not likely to happen where I live, but nice to have a crank radio and flashlight.

Only thing is I thought it would be bigger. But it works like advertised.

 "Great for camping" 2010-01-18
By Thabata P. Regiani (Brazil/USA)
I bought this item to take with me while camping. The great attractive feature was the fact that we could listen to the radio and the weather station while in the woods without the need for batteries.

This feature works very well. It makes it a green product, since you save loads of batteries, just using the handle to charge it. One thing we notice though, was during our last camping trip, a winter one. The temperatures was below freezing (around 29F/-2C) and the radio was working perfectly fine, but the battery would last less longer (wich is not exactly a major problem). So if you are planning to use it for winter camping, be advised that you may need to recharge it more often.

The other reason I bought it would be to charge my cellphone just using the solar power charge. This does not work. To charge your cellphone for up to a minute of talking, you need to spin the handle for more than 15 minutes. The instruction manual does not even mention that you can charge your cellphone using solar power.

By the way, the instruction manual is terrible. It does not provide answers for half of the questions we had about the product, and left us to find out by using the product.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

"Just what I was looking for" 2010-01-14
By Rjwerning (Wisconsin, USA.)
Just what I was looking for, a small compact radio to take along camping and leave laying around in case of emergency. The weather bands will be usefull in both cases.

Note that there is no AC charger for it, and the batteries are not replaceable - the power comes from solar charger or hand crank. It's about the height & width of a soda can, maybe 1/2 the thickness, and light enough to toss into your backpack and not really notice.

I hooked it up to my Blackberry Storm (9530) using the USB cord and found that charging was quite easy, no problem keeping a constant charge. However the "15 min for a 1 min call" that the manual states means you'd probably only do this in the most extreme emergencies. However, in an emergency a 1 min call may save your life.

Sound quality was surprisingly better than I expected for such a small radio, a couple coworkers felt the same way. I haven't put the battery life to a serious test yet, but I cranked it for maybe 1 min and left it on for over an hour - and played with the light a couple times during that hour. It still plays load and clear. Reception works fine too, even the AM band works better in the middle of our office building than most of the higher quality radios around here. (Note: if you're looking for a great AM desk top radio, I'm very pleased with the Sangean WR-2).

The biggest con for me is that there is no water proofing, doubt it's even a little water resistant. Things tend to get left out over night when camping, or damp in a backpack when it rains, so care will have to be used to be sure it's kept dry.

All in all, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

 "Nice for the price" 2010-01-10
By Susie Chapstick (maine)
This is a much better product than in the past. Family members had similar items and you had to crank them forever to get any power. This one works easily and charges up fast, works well with the sun too. With all the storms we get in New England, the power goes out often, its a good idea to have an something like this. Be advised it is small in size but the lamp is strong. Nice color too!

I purchased this for my dad for x-mas and he loves it. The radio stations come in great, the flashlight is blinding. It's well worth the price
